Rebalancing

Earn's Auto-Pilot checks eligible vaults every five minutes and moves your capital toward the highest APY.

TL;DR

  • Auto-Pilot checks every five minutes for a higher-APY candidate.
  • Vaults are scored by share-price APY, averaged over your APY smoothing window. Token rewards are not in the score.
  • A move fires when the candidate clears your Sensitivity threshold and stays qualified for your Confirmation window.
  • Two exceptions skip those gates: a vault you hide, and a held vault that falls below your Min withdrawable liquidity floor. Both are exited on the next check.

The scoring rule

Auto-Pilot ranks every eligible vault by share-price APY, averaged over the strategy's APY smoothing window. Rewards (MORPHO and partner tokens) are claimed separately on Morpho and don't influence routing, so all candidates compare on the same yield mechanism.

Vaults on different chains compete on the same score against the same threshold; chain identity does not modify the score.

What triggers a move

A candidate has to clear these gates:

  1. APY gap. The improvement over your lowest-APY held vault must meet your Sensitivity threshold.
  2. Confirmation window. The same move (same from-vault, same to-vault) must stay qualified on consecutive five-minute checks for your full window. If the edge disappears on any check, the counter resets to zero.
  3. Cooldown. A move that reverted on-chain is parked for one check.
  4. No pending bridge. If a cross-chain transfer is in flight, Auto-Pilot skips this strategy's pass.
  5. Principal-erosion guard. Auto-Pilot skips any move whose fee would push net value below your original capital. Forced exits are the exception.

At most one move executes per strategy per check, worst-APY position first; when same-chain and cross-chain moves qualify together, the cross-chain move runs first. New strategies also get a grace period of one Confirmation window after the first deposit before any move can fire.

Forced exits

Two events exit a vault on the next check, regardless of the APY gap and Confirmation window:

  • You hide a vault your strategy currently holds.
  • A held vault's withdrawable liquidity drops below your Min withdrawable liquidity floor.

Funds go to the best eligible vault, even if it yields less than the vault being exited. To keep a forced exit from landing near another liquidity cliff, Auto-Pilot only enters vaults holding at least twice your floor. Forced moves that land in a lower-APY vault are labeled Force Rebalance in history and notifications.

If no eligible replacement is approved, the strategy shows Action needed, the position stays put, and the exit retries every check.

When a vault can't be exited (Holding)

If a vault's withdrawable liquidity can't cover your position right now, Earn can't redeem it. The position is tagged Holding: it stays in place, keeps earning yield, and is excluded from all moves. Auto-Pilot rebalances your next-lowest vault instead. The tag clears automatically once liquidity returns.

Why a rebalance you expected didn't happen

  • The strategy is Paused.
  • The APY change was too small to clear Sensitivity.
  • The candidate hasn't stayed qualified for your full Confirmation window; a dip on any check (including its liquidity slipping below your floor) resets the counter.
  • The winning vault isn't approved by your wallet yet. Earn surfaces an Approve button and a notification when this is the only blocker.
  • The strategy is still in its post-deposit grace period.
  • A CCTP bridge from an earlier move is still in flight.
  • The principal-erosion guard skipped the move (common on young strategies where accumulated yield is small).
  • A cross-chain move ran first and the same-chain move was deferred.

Auto-Pilot revisits on the next check; there is no manual nudge.

What you see

The strategy page's Auto-Pilot Status card shows the current state, a gauge from your lowest held APY to the trigger APY with the best candidate marked, and once confirmation starts, a progress bar counting the five-minute checks.

While a move executes, a "Rebalance in progress" banner tracks the transaction. Cross-chain moves show a stepper instead: Bridged, Attestation, Relaying, Deposited. See Cross-chain bridging. Afterward, history shows the from-vault, to-vault, amount, and fee.
